On January 20, 2025, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday will mark the 30th anniversary as a National Day of Service. This day was established to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, and to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

What is “Movement Rooted in Love?”            ¿Qué es “Movimiento Rooted in Love”?

Movement Rooted in Love is a day of service, learning, fellowship and community.  It is inspired by the adrienee maree brown quote above.  It a day to honor the values preached by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What is the schedule for the day?                 ¿Cuál es el horario del día?

All events take place in and around Baraboo First United Methodist Church – located at 615 Broadway, Baraboo WI.  

  • 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Sanctuary will be open for prayer, contemplation and worship.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Cocoa and Company available in Singer Fellowship Hall.  Come for a sweet treat and find yourself in good company.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Sleeping Mat Weaving.  Drop in for a few minutes or all day and make plarn and weave a sleeping mat for local houseless persons.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Community Art Project.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon – Cookie Baking for first responders and local social service agencies.  Sign up ahead of time is appreciated.  Sign up here.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon – Hugs and Kisses, X’s and O’s for first responders and local service agencies.  Drop in activity.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Neighborly Store Volunteer Opportunity.  Sign up ahead of time as space is limited.  Sign up here.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Card Craft for local first responders and social service agencies.  Sign up ahead of time is appreciated.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. –  Flower Craft Activity for local first responders and social service agencies.  Sign up ahead of time is appreciated.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Blessing Bags for St. Vinnys and local folks in need.  Sign up ahead of time is appreciated.  Donations list can be found here.
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Food Drive for Madison VA Hospital.  Requested Items can be found here.
  • 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Movement Rooted in Love free concert in FUMC sanctuary
  • 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Fellowship Time – Games board games in Singer Fellowship Hall.  Snacks welcomed!

 

Todos los eventos se llevan a cabo en y alrededor de la Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida de Baraboo, ubicada en 615 Broadway, Baraboo WI.

  • 13:00 – 15:30 – Manualidad de tarjetas para socorristas locales y agencias de servicios sociales. Se agradece la inscripción anticipada.

  • 18:00 – 19:00 – Concierto gratuito de Movement Rooted in Love en el santuario de FUMC
  • 19:00 – 21:00 – Tiempo de confraternidad – Juegos de mesa en el salón de confraternidad de cantantes. ¡Se aceptan bocadillos!

Who is this event for?            ¿Para quién es este evento?

This event is for you.  While we are a faith based organization, this event is for anyone needing love, with love to give or simply just a place to be wanted.  Projects are for people of all abilities.

Este evento es para ti. Si bien somos una organización basada en la fe, este evento es para cualquier persona que necesite amor, tenga amor para dar o simplemente un lugar donde ser querido. Los proyectos son para personas de todas las capacidades.

Can I come for some of the day?  ¿Puedo comer un poco durante el día?

Yes!  Stop by in the morning for cocoa, and bring back some canned goods in the afternoon.  Work in the morning?  Come for the concert in the evening!  Stop by and add your touch to the cookies and return for games and snacks in the evening.

No.  This event is paid for by the current member care fund at Baraboo First UMC.  Donations of non-perishable items and blessing bag items are welcomed!  See the schedule above.
